IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ROUTE
The K2 base camp trek is widely regarded as the most renowned and formidable trekking route globally. Although demanding, the experience is undoubtedly gratifying. Commencing from Skardu, the capital of Baltistan, we traverse through Shigar, a luxuriant valley abounding with fruits, and proceed until Askole, the road head and the final human settlement before entering Galen Rowell’s ‘throne room of the mountain gods.’ The trek involves navigating the perilous yet awe-inspiring Baltoro Glacier, and along the way, we behold several illustrious and stunning peaks.
At last, we reach Concordia, the meeting point of Baltoro and Godwin Austin Glaciers, where several other tributaries congregate, and the base for the four giants of Karakorum’s – Gasherbrum II (8035m), Broad Peak (8047m), Hidden Peak or Gasherbrum I (8068m) – dominated by the monarch of the mountains, K-2 (8611m). The place’s beauty is unparalleled globally, and the sight of K2 is breath-taking. On the return journey, we may either retrace our steps or cross the Ghondoghoro La, a technical pass at an elevation of 5650 meters, offering an excellent challenge to adventure enthusiasts. This route leads to Hushe, another picturesque valley of Baltistan, and we drive to Skardu, visiting Khaplu, the renowned sub-division of the area, renowned for its ancient castle and mosque.
